I have to be honest with you -
I had a very different story planned for this week.
But it doesn't feel right to post it in light of a certain passing a few days ago. Hint - in Land of Maple Syrup, she's on the $20 bill.
My heart goes out to her family.
Politics aside, she was first and foremost a mother and grandmother. Nearly a century years old, she witnessed momentous changes in human history.
She seemed nice enough. I like her Paddington Bear vid on YTube.
Having said that, I get that NOT everyone is mourning. Understandably. Colonialism affected some more so than others.
Colonialism and the bloody mining of wealth from other lands are ugly truths no one wants to talk about. Because it's uncomfortable. And down right f*cked up when you get to the nitty gritty details of what happened.
I'm curious how her successor will deal with it. He has an opp to do things differently. But will he?
Only time will tell.
